Who are we?

The Protein Brewery (TPB) is a young, highly innovative company focused on creative technologies to develop and produce sustainable food ingredients using classical brewing and precision fermentation technology. We are addressing the eminent global shift from animal-based food ingredients towards a sustainable, plant-based food chain. Our team in Breda currently consists of 40 people and is growing fast. Who are we looking for?
As we are scaling up we’re looking for a new colleague who will use his/hers extensive (food) safety and quality knowledge to build, install and maintain a (food) safety/quality system and culture in our scale up plant in Breda. You will work both with internal colleagues as well as external advisors, regulatory authorities, suppliers, auditors etc. Your main goal will be to build up and maintain a food safety and quality system and culture to be implemented in the scale up plant, according to the FSSC 22000 standard. Moreover, you will ensure that the food safety and quality plan is compliant to the FDA food safety requirements for food exported to the US (Food
Safety Modernization Act, FSMA). In addition, together with the Plant Manager, you are co-responsible for safety, health and environmental (SHE) obligations.


What are your responsibilities and scope in this role?

  • Obtaining and maintaining all required (food) safety and quality standards for the scale-up plant, with focus on the FSSC 22000 standard.

  • Maintaining (food) safety and quality assurance systems necessary for production.

  • Building a (food) safety culture within the organization.

  • Managing the (food) safety activities.

  • Training on quality, health, environmental and safety issues.

  • Training of operators on Critical Control Points (CCPs) in the production process and good hygiene practices during production.

  • Compliance to the US FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and other international food safety laws for export.

  • Internal & external (food) safety, hygiene and supplier audits.

  • Being the first point of contact for Quality, Safety, Health & Environments related topics & issues for the internal organization and customers.

  • Ensuring and updating the RI&E and securing the actions resulting from the RI&E.

  • Being the prevention officer for the Mijkenbroek Location.

What does your profile look like?

We are a good match if you have...

  • Relevant degree(s), higher Education (Bachelor degree) or a Master’s degree in the field of Food Technology, Food Safety, Food Quality or related.

  • Preferably in possession of a VCA and/or IVK certificate or similar.

  • Experienced leader with proven track record (at least 5 years) in quality and (food) safety within the food industry.

  • Experience with setting up documentation and practices needed to obtain and implement a FSSC 22000 v6 certification in a new production facility.

  • Experience with other relevant quality systems (e.g. ISO 22000:2018, BRC, IFS).

  • Experience with FSMA (PCQI certificated).

  • Experience with internal and external audits.

  • Knowledge of Food Safety Law and Safety, Health & Environment.

  • The ability to work independently.

  • An expert and good communicator with internal and external stakeholders with a creative thinking out-of-the box, hands-on, solution-oriented mindset in the (food) safety environment. Somebody that can hold a position, is decisive, confident and able to take a leadership position also in a situation of crisis.

  • Excellent communication skills and fluent in Dutch and English.
